EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY

OK, so for £24 you're not going to get much but this little hi-fi really surprised me. I purchased it to go into a cupboard & connect to some ceiling speakers I already had in place & it works like a dream. Good sound quality together with some features you wouldn't expect on a hi-fi of this price; ramdom/repeat. The unit itself is a lot nicer in the flesh than I thought it would be. However, the remote is very cheap & plastic looking. Having said that it even came with batteries included. Is it just me or are you also wondering how can they sell this at that price!!!

I bought this after trawling through all the reviews, so I took my chances...It was delivered speedily to my door, I set it up with the speakers provided, ok so far...then tried it with the old speakers I had (as other reviewers had said they had done) better sound, bass booster - selected, now for the cd player, check all good....So less than 2 weeks of having this system, I have a new cd to play - great!!! The cd started skipping, it's the cd? I try another one, no an error message comes on the display, tried lots of cds still no play it spins in the player and the errors msg comes up again....disappointed I took it back to asda for a refund, shame!!!!

The sound quality with its supplied speakers is a bit thin, but it works very well with better speakers left over from my previous Thompson radio. Reception is v good with the supplied wire aerial but note that the radio is manually tuned - for each station - there is NO pre-set facility and you cannot change channels from the remote. However, for the price, it is amazingly good value with good sound on both radio and CD. It also looks quite stylish and goes well in the kitchen, taking up little space. Very pleased with it.

I bought this item over the internet and paid to have it delivered as my nearest Asda store is half-an-hour drive away. It arrived promptly and in good condition packaging-wise. Unfortunately it did not work. The CD player did not function although the radio was working. When I called the trouble-shooting number I was just told to return it to my nearest store. So I did not avoid the long drive after all. My money and postage were refunded but I did notice that there was another identical item already returned at the customer service desk. I also noticed that the item was on sale £4 cheaper than I had paid in the store. Overall a disappointing experience.

I had looked around to purchase a compact Hi Fi and when I went on line at Asda Direct
I found the one that suited us, so I ordered this item to be delivered to my local Asda store for collecting, which took 2/3 days,
when I collected the hi fi at my local Asda
I was told that the item I bought online was in
stock and I could have bought it at my local store instead of going to Asda Direct.
It would a good idea if when ordering from Asda Direct, they could check the item to see if the item could be bought at their local store

Great micro system for the money

I bought this for my kitchen and was very surprised at the number of radio stations I could get that I couldn't before with my old radio. The cd player is quite good; although I wish it had an auto-loop to re-play the cd if I want to. Read the specs - the speakers are not meant to blast sound from one end of the house to the other - but they are clear and offer a good punch. Very good value for the money!

Like alot of the others i was abit sceptical about this little hi fi,it was the price that sort of put me off i thought it would be very tinny in sound and be crackling, how wrong i was im so glad i went ahead,it is a smart looking little system, and as my tv and bluray player is black it fits in great, had no problems setting it up took about 3 minutes and away you go, i got it to play my reflexology/music cds on and the tone is lovely, you have 28 days to take it back if you are not happy and a years guarantee,I have not tried the radio as im not a radio fan but the cd part i am more than happy with and for the price can't see how anyone wouldn't be, it would make a great gift for someone who hasnt got the space for a great big hi fi system..and super quick delivery..

It astonished me

This purchase got off to a bad start; delivery took nearly a week, and the carrier’s web site tracking was confusing and contradictory.
The speakers supplied are what you might expect for their size and price, but through a good pair of headphones, sound quality and stereo effect are excellent.
In the main, this unit has astonished me. Everything works just the way it should. It is thoughtfully designed, and heavily built, including the chunky remote control with nice wide buttons. The radio is superb. Using just its wire aerial, I receive a large number of FM stations, including several French transmissions in stereo. Medium wave is also good, with none of the oscillations between stations that are typical of cheap radios. The instructions say there is a tuning dial, but that’s not so. A rotary edge knob tunes the stations, and a frequency readout of those received is shown on the digital display. That’s better than a dial.
Note that AM radio uses an internal aerial, not the wire, so the whole unit needs to be rotated for best reception. There may be dead spots in some positions..
The bare wire speaker connections are just like those on costly hi-fi systems. Push the wires all the way in, but not so that the insulation is gripped instead of the wire.
The CD lid is substantial, but is easy to close if pressed down near the button that opens it.
You can hear your MP3 or cassette player on this unit even though it has no input socket. Buy one of the tiny FM transmitters now on the market. They are quite cheap. Connect it to the headphone socket of your player, and its output can then be received by any nearby FM radio.
Be warned that the AA cells supplied for the remote control are the sort that can corrode and cause damage if not removed when exhausted. Replace them in good time with alkaline type.
As a technician in a related field, I am delighted to have bought this high quality unit at such a low price. It has more features and works better than anyone could reasonably expect.

i had been looking for a flat cd player for ages. The Asda product seemed just what I wanted. It was good value and arrived promptly. I was able to assemble it myself,(i am a 65 year old with no technological skills) so that was a good start. The cd player is very pleasing to look at and has all the features I required withouit being too complicated to use. The sound quality, although not brilliant, is more than adequate for my use. Overall I am delighted with the product and as value for money, it is first class

Excellent Little Player

We purchased this for my little girls bedroom for nighttime CD's & have found it to be of excellent quality. The sound is very clear with no noise disturbance and the remote control enables parental control without causing any disturbance or interruption. It would have been a little better if the CD player sits more upright as we have placed it on top of her wardrobe (out of the way!) and it sits quite flat. But apart from this minor detail we feel this was excellent value for money and a superb buy!

i was looking for something to provide background music and this is cheap and smart looking and good value for the price one word of caution is that the speaker must be put as far as the short cables will allow because there is buzzing sound when there are to close apart from that what do expect for the price!

Bought to work alongside my existing hi-fi music centre when cd player stopped working.
Tried it out as a a stand alone player and was pleasantly surprised. Good tone for such a budget priced item but the speakers are not as large as I am used to I so found the effect slightly lightweight. However it is quite acceptable for small room, kitchen or teen's bedroom. Extremely good value for money.
I have wired mine into my existing hi fi speakers and I now have a cd player as good as the rest of my system, and an extra radio! Radio performance is also good with an FM wire aerial include but I have not tried AM
The player is larger than I expected from the pictures but perhaps I mistook inches for cms. All in all an extremely good buy

This is cheap but sounds great. The only downsides are a lack of AUX input (for mp3 player, phone etc) and the lid doesn't sit flush when closed as the spring is too strong. That said it is fantastic for the money.

This unit was purchased for use in a bedroom, which doubles up for use with a ski cross trainer. The unit was excellent value for money, and has sufficient functionality to use with the exercise machine, or more quietly when guests are staying in the bedroom.
The main unit is very light, so can slide a little on a book shelf when the front controls are used. I overcame this by pushing the unit to the back of the shelf. The use of bare cable ends for the speaker connections to the main unit seems a little over the top. A jack plug is more common.

Purchased this for summerhouse. Nice looking unit, bit flimsy but ok. Radio ok but cd player only worked for one hour then would not work any more. Phoned Asda, explained problem, they said unit had failed and they would replace with one that hopefully would last a bit longer! I asked for refund instead. Unit returned, refund given. Purchased a Phillips unit from elsewhere, works perfectly. Guess you get what you pay for.
